Your Coaches

Coach Bobby Thomas started his fitness journey in 2016 and quickly knew that coaching his fellow athletes was something that he would enjoy. He is a former Marine who has always found fitness to be a very important responsibility not only for combat preparedness but for living life to the fullest.

Bobby and his wife Kristi are parents of four active boys so being fit for the long haul is not only a responsibility but a survival tactic that he has developed. Bobby has been coaching youth baseball on various platforms for 10 years and his natural coaching and leadership qualities make coaching fun and productive.

Over the years, Bobby trained on and off with various programs but never found a program that he could relate to and desired more. CrossFit hooked him over 5 years ago and he continues to want more, not only for himself but for the athletes that he coaches. Bobby completed his CrossFit Level 1 course in 2017, the CrossFit Gymnastics course in 2019 along with several online courses that CrossFit offers to their coaches. Bobby also holds a current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certificate through the American Red Cross. He continues to challenge the athletes he coaches and expects production and 100% effort out of every class he leads.

Shannon has been active through high school and college with sports such as softball & volleyball. She found her love of fitness 7 years ago. Olympic lifting shortly followed & she hasn’t looked back. Her love for both inspired her to become certified in both to help others find their passion and best selves through fitness & being active. She is a USA weightlifting Level 1 coach, and Level Method certified. She also holds a current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certificate with the American Red Cross.

In her personal time Shannon loves traveling & trying new adventures with her husband, daughter, family & friends. That usually includes trips further south where it’s always warm, sunny and sandy!

Beth never considered herself an athlete and didn’t participate in sports growing up. Seven years ago in her early 40’s and 50 lbs overweight she decided to embrace physical fitness. It definitely wasn’t love at first sight but in a very short period time she was hooked. She also discovered a love of Olympic lifting along way. She began coaching to share her new found love of fitness with others. She is a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach and Level Method Certified. She also holds a current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certificate through the American Red Cross.

When not at the gym, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She and her husband love to travel and explore Virginia’s wineries. The whole family bleeds purple and spend most fall weekends tailgating with friends at JMU football games. Go Dukes!

Kristy began her fitness journey in 2015 after her second child was born.  As a former athlete, she fell in love with the atmosphere and overall methodology that Level Method offers. Kristy holds a degree in exercise science, and she has developed a love of helping the human body grow and heal.

Working with individuals as a practitioner in Massage Therapy for 15 years, she is excited to join The Train Yard and usher people into their true wellness and fitness.

When Kristy is not at the gym, you can find her surrounded by nature with her chickens, dog, fish, children and husband at her country home or out camping.

Kristy is a Level Method certified coach.

Karen has discovered how effective functional fitness training was over any other types of exercise she had done in the past.

She earned her certification in 2016 and enjoys working with all ages of athletes, but especially the new-to-fitness members who are hesitant and lack confidence that they can change their quality of life through this type of fitness.

A retired registered nurse who home schooled her two now adult sons, she has enjoyed regaining physical abilities she had lost allowing her to once again enjoy hobbies like gardening, hiking, and sailing.

Karen is Level Method certified and holds a current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certificate with the American Red Cross.
